From January to February, the total retail sales of social consumer goods amounted to 5,213 billion yuan, down 20.5 percent in nominal terms on a year-on-year basis (23.7 percent in real terms after deducting the price factor, with the following nominal growth except for special instructions). Among them, the retail sales of consumer goods excluding automobiles reached 4,847.6 billion yuan, down 18.9 percent.
In terms of different areas, the retail sales of consumer goods in urban areas was 4,488.1 billion yuan in the first two months, decreased by 20.7 percent year-on-year, while that in rural areas was 724.9 billion yuan, fell 19.0 percent.
In terms of different consumption patterns, the catering services in the first two months gained 419.4 billion yuan, dropped by 43.1 percent year-on-year. The retail sales of goods reached 4,793.6 billion yuan, decreased by 17.6 percent.
From January to February, the national online retail sales reached 1,371.2 billion yuan, down 3.0 percent year on year. Among them, the online retail sales of physical goods reached 1,123.3 billion yuan, an increase of 3.0 percent, accounting for 21.5 percent of the total retail sales of social consumer goods; among the online retail sales of physical goods, food and consumer goods increased by 26.4 and 7.5 percent respectively, while clothing goods decreased by 18.1 percent.
